The Redmond / Bend / Madras / Prineville / Sisters area is the geographic center of the State of Oregon. The region covers approximately 90 miles on a side containing 7,787 square miles. With approximately 120,600 residents it has a population density of about 14.4 people per square mile.

The region consists of three counties:

Crook County to the East
Jefferson County to the North
Deschutes County to the South and West

Redmond sits nearly dead center within the tri-county area. Redmond International Airport is the only stop within the region for commercial air carriers. By air, Portland and Eugene are a mere 40 minutes away.

Topographical features in Central Oregon vary from the nearly level surfaces of the high desert valley where elevation is about 3,500 feet, to the rugged mountain peaks such as Three Sisters and Mt. Jefferson which all exceed 10,000 feet.

The Crooked River

The weather in Central Oregon is typical of a high desert area: Moderate days and cool nights. Compared to Western Oregon it is dry and sunny. We average 10 days a year with temperatures around 90 degrees. We average 130 clear days, 90 partly cloudy days and 145 cloudy days. Annual precipitation is 10 to 15 inches with 55 to 65 percent falling as snow.
